1627 · The first footsteps
In 1627 a Portuguese Jesuit, Estêvão Cacella, crossed the Himalaya into a kingdom almost no outsider had seen. Nearly four centuries on, Bhutan still guards its forests, its faith and its quiet, and we still travel in his footsteps.
Founded by Tshering Namgay, Cacella Expeditions opens the doors he walked through: the monasteries, the mountain passes and the village homes.
